Postgraduate study

Your postgraduate degree at Aberdeen

Postgraduate study is about building upon the skills you learnt as an undergraduate student. Masters degrees offer you an edge in the competitive graduate market, improving your career prospects as you gain more experience in your chosen subject area.

Studying a Masters degree is a different experience to studying an undergraduate degree. Postgraduate degrees are often more autonomous and you will be required to manage your own time effectively. On top of this, you will get to learn even more about your subject to prepare for your future career.

The University of Aberdeen is renowned for a long heritage of research excellence. The University boasts five Nobel Prize winners, providing the knowledge and skills for you to change the world. As a postgraduate student, you will already have the foundations of knowledge to become an expert in your subject.

Starting your journey at the International Study Centre

To study a postgraduate degree as an international student, our twelve-week Pre-Masters Programme is here to help you to develop the skills you need. You will study a combination of subject-specific modules, English language modules and courses to develop your study skills before progressing to your chosen degree.

Applying for a postgraduate degree

Postgraduate degrees are the perfect next step to further developing your career. You can learn more about what you're passionate about whilst gaining more skills to help your CV stand out in the competitive graduate employment market. Postgraduate degrees can either be taught or research based, but the entry requirements are similar for both. As an international student you'll need to reach both the English language and academic requirements for your chosen degree. The academic requirements will usually be an undergraduate degree in a similar subject, either from a UK university or another country.
