Our International Study Centre in the heart of the Old Aberdeen Campus offers a safe and welcoming environment, whoever you are and wherever you come from. 

We will be open for your studies (subject to satisfactory completion of our detailed health and safety risk assessment) and supportive staff at the International Study Centre will help you adjust to living and studying in the UK. If you cannot travel to the UK for the start of the first term, you can start your studies online from home.

Studying at the International Study Centre

Our programmes at the International Study Centre prepare you for an undergraduate or postgraduate study at the University of Aberdeen.

With our undergraduate pathways, you will graduate with your degree in the typical four years it takes to complete an undergraduate degree in Scotland, whilst our pathway to Medicine lets you progress to a 5-year medical degree. Our Pre-Masters Programme offers two routes to postgraduate study at the University, ensuring you gain the skills to succeed in the perfect degree for you.

Undergraduate

Undergraduate Foundation Programme

Spend the first year of your four-year undergraduate degree at the International Study Centre, before transitioning to university study with our Undergraduate Foundation Programme.

In order to progress to your chosen degree aim, you will need to achieve the following minimum grades:
Academic: CGS C or 55% (with minimum CGS D or 40% in all modules)
English language: 60% (equivalent to IELTS 6.0, minimum 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in all other skills, although students will not be required to take an IELTS).

Life Sciences – pathway to Medicine

  • MBChB Medicine

Students who successfully complete the Undergraduate Foundation Programme will have the option to apply for the Sri Lanka Medical Pathway at the University of Aberdeen.

There are up to 15 places available for the best students meeting minimum requirements during the Undergraduate Foundation Programme.

Progression is competitively awarded and is dependent on achieving:

  • the required academic and English language grades

         - English: 70% (equivalent of IELTS 7.0 with minimum 7.0 in speaking)

         - Academic: minimum CGS B (equivalent 68% overall), with at least four modules at a minimum of CGS A (82%)

  • performance in the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT)

  • undertaking an interview assessing attributes and aptitudes appropriate to medicine

  • undertake appropriate work experience and:

  • submission of an Academic Reference from the ISC Life Sciences Lead.

Students who are not successful in progressing to medicine at this time will have the option of moving to a degree from the Life Sciences pathway (depending on their grades).
